In our last ICT lesson we looked at Microsoft PowerPoint and Prezzi. I have had a lot more experience using PowerPoint so naturally preferred to use it. I find PowerPoint a very useful and easy programme to use so I focused on PowerPoint for the majority of the lesson.
PowerPoint's main use is to allow its user to create presentations using multiple slides. You can then give your presentation and refer to the slides as a visual aid or to give further information. It also works well as a prompt to the person giving the presentation as they can look at the slides throughout the presentation if they need to.
PowerPoint is useful in schools and many teachers use it for their lessons as they can attach pictures and web links to web pages or videos. This complements the interactive whiteboards as the teacher can draw over the top of the slides as well as changing the slide or following the web links without having to sit behind their computer.
Children benefit from multi-sensory teaching and with the many features that PowerPoint offers along with the interactive whiteboards children stay engaged for longer. I created a few a slides in the lesson to see how you can use different animations in order to make the PowerPoint more engaging for children. For example, I attached a sound clip to the dinosaur so that you can press it and hear the sound, I also made the title float in and the text spin around. These are just little elements that are fairly quick to insert into the PowerPoint but they can keep children interested in the lesson.
